Avalon Bey Newfoundland Kennel is located in Vale, North Carolina and is owned and cared for by Laura Rader.
Laura Rader has a versatile background when in comes to dogs and horses that dates back to her childhood. Over the past 30 years, she has experienced showing and breeding, American Cockers, Welsh Corgi’s, Jack Russell Terriers. When Laura was a teenager, she showed Arabian Horses in 4-H and then was a professional horse trainer as a young adult. During her college years, Laura ventured oversees to Denmark and Iceland. While in Denmark she met up with her long time Danish Arabian horse friend and then hopped over to Iceland to ride Iceland horses and visit the future cove for the famous killer whale, Keiko. The summer of 2003, Laura attended the Iditarod teacher conference in Wasilla, Alaska. During her visit, she learned a great deal about breeding, nutrition/health care, training and race preparation of sled dogs. Her most absorbing experience was meeting and touring dog kennels of several famous mushers such as Martin Buser, Linda Plettner, and Wayne Curtis (a Siberian Husky breeder). This was an adventure of a life time!!
Sixteen years ago, I purchased my first Newfoundland and she turned out to be my first show prospect and longtime friend. Since that time, I have been actively showing, training, and breeding Newfoundlands under the Avalon Bey Newfoundlands kennel name. To date, I have bred and owned 35 AKC Champions, NCA and SENC Top Producing bitches, three having achieved their Registry of Merit, a Best of Breed and AOM Westminster winners, Eukanuba Winner, National and Regional specialty winners, Two National Specialty Top Twenty Judges Choice winners and one who has achieved a Best in Show Award.
Laura Rader spends a lot of time educating puppy owners and has become known for her motivation and encouragement sharing knowledge of the Newfoundland breed at shows and at home. And Laura continues to seek and learn more about our breed and pass it along to puppy owners, breeders and the public.
I owe much of my success to Patti McDowell of Council Cup Newfoundlands for the breedings to Dante and Romeo and Debbie Thornton of Cypress Bay Newfoundlands for entrusting Snazzy to Laura Rader and Julie Fitser. Peggy and Dave Helming of Pouch Cove Newfoundlands were the biggest fans of Zeus - BISS GCH Avalon Bey's Little Bit of Thunder and I thank them for all their help, support and encouragement over the past few years. Avalon Bey also sends a big thank you to Kathy Griffin of Seabrook Newfoundlands for sending us a Zeus granddaughter.
